Another idea based on what i just experienced:
10) User bounce feature- Situation: I send out a bunch of newsletters and a few come back bounced. I could just go into the nuke_user table and unsubscribe them but then i'd lose important info- that they were once subscribed, plus there should be an easier way to mark a subscriber bounced.

Add a section in admin where an admin can type in an email address (or username) and chose a popup (unsubscribe, subscribe, bounced, change email)- then it confirms "are you sure?" then responds appropriately. Add a bounce date and a unsubscribe date to the subscriber table and then fill it in as appropriate.

In the newsletter block etc you have a message that comes up to bounced subscribers- "your email address is invalid, please enter your new one here"- they can add their new email address and submit which will automatically take off their bounce date (note: at no point in the process did u unsubscribe a bounced email. you can set up in the send newsletter function that it doesn't send to people with bounce dates.).

When I start working on 1.3 again, I'll have to check back with you for more details. I am not clear on a few things you mentioned and will need to refine requirements...

Actually, thinking about this, there MAY be an alternative solution which might be easier to implement requiring less coding, less time etc etc.

I have pondered on this subject for a while with regard to sending out newsletters etc and my own personal concenrs are;
1 How do I act responsibly when performing mass mailings
2 How do I prevent my server from being blacklisted due to rejected mails which happens far too easily with Yahoo, Hotmail etc etc.

I think that rather than worry about unsubscribing a user, it might be easier to look at 'keeping them subscribed'.

Here is a brief outline;
User is either subscribed by nuke user profile option or some other means.
A database flag is set to 1 to indicate the user is subscribed as is currently the cae with phpNuke.
When a user is subscribed and a newsletter sent, that flag is changed to '0'.
When the user gets the newsletter, they are prompted to 'click here to continue getting these newsletters'.

I think it would be a simple matter then of reminding site visitors whether they are subscribed or not by just adding some simple code in the site header with the currently used "Welcome XXXX" type announcements many already have in their header code and/or site information blocks.

All excellent suggestions and will be strongly considered.

Thanks!
