Out of the blue, my last few newsletters have been sent out with the links missing.

When I preview them online they are there, but when I send it out and view it in my mail client, the links are missing.

If you'd like, supply a email address and I will send a test email so you can see what I mean.

Thanks in advance

I have sent you a PM. By the way, nothing with computers ever just happens "out of the blue". Something has changed. Lets find out what...

Well, the interesting thing is the database queries appear to be right in that the data is coming back because I am seeing the link tags being properly written, but for some reason the other text isn't getting valued. We need to start ruling out some things because something has definitely changed.

First try replacing the Fancy_Content template with the original from the distribution (download).

If that does not work, try replacing the script admin_make_nls.php with the one from the original distribution.

I also find it odd that the Last Poster and Author information is not showing up in the forums. Have you made any patch updates recently?

Remember, things don't just start going wrong. You need to backtrack to any updates that you have made to your site or these newsletter scripts.

I am in the midst of trying these suggestions, but I just thought of something that changed and I wondered if this may have an effect on this module.

After the hack I changed all my database passwords, could this be my problem?

And no, I havent made any updates to the site.

I am using RavenNuke76 v2.01.00 Distro to run the site.

BTW:
None of the suggestions made above worked. I still have the same problem.

No, this would not have any impact on that. However, since they hacked your site, no telling what they did. I would replace all of your newsletter script files just to be safe.

Are all your news and forums working right? If so, post the table schema for the following tables or send them to me to the email addy I gave you the other day:

nuke_stories
nuke_topics
nuke_bbtopics
nuke_bbposts
nuke_bbforums
nuke_users

nuke_hnl_newsletters
nuke_hnl_categories
nuke_hnl_cfg

I want to compare these to my RN76 implementation to make sure the hackers didn't change something on you.

Also, any chance you can validate that the rows coming back on the news and forums are correct (i.e., the authors, view hits, etc.)? These guys may have mucked with your data.

Would it be easier to just grant you access, instead of posting all the info here?

That is fine. I will need phpMyAdmin, FTP, and nuke admin (don't forget NukeSentinel). Just PM me the info. It may take me a few days to get through it as I also have some other deadlines, but will make it a priority.

Here is what I found (and I sent you a Newsletter to just "admin" with the same):

1) First of all, the information you gave me is not your production site. You made it sound in your original post that all the links were showing previously and then "all of a sudden they stopped showing"! A little bit misleading that was. Sad

2) The archives directory was not set to 777. Had you copied this stuff over from a previous installation maybe?

3) You had deleted the critical and required first two newsletters in the _hnl_newsletters table. These two newsletters are necessary to the operation of the tool.

I am not sure what is really going on here because I have a feeling that this site you gave me to look at is not the one where you are missing the links. The newsletter create would have never worked given the above issues...

Regards,
montego

I'm a little confused by his comment. The site I sent you to is my personal web site. And yes it worked previously and now it does not.

This was a new install and not copied over.

I didnt delete anything out of the _hnl_newsletters table, I'm wondering now though how they could have been deleted. Maybe in the hack??

Yes this is the site that I am missing the links in the newsletter and the newsletter you sent me, via the admin eamil, still didnt have any links attached to it.

Yes, my appologies and ooopsss Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Still not sure why it worked before and not now. I saw all the other things that weren't set up right (or like you said, potentially a result of the hack) and jumped to the wrong conclusion.

I just wanted to publically state that.

As mentioned in my email to you, I will take another look at it in the morning. Were you able to download and apply the patch? Does 01.03.01 work? TIA.

After looking at this some more, I highly recommend starting with a fresh installation of HTML Newsletter 01.03.01. As you can see from my sample that I just sent to myself from my site, it is working just fine. I think the hacker may have mucked with some of the newsletter files.

It would be better that you just re-install from scratch than me trying to figure out which script they have modified. It is making the newsletter fine but when it is going to send, it is stripping out the link text and closing anchor tag. Makes no sense. I don't have code in there anywhere remotely close to doing that.

To re-install this in the best way, I would remove the modules/HTML_Newsletter directory completely (you may save off your change to the template.php of the logo graphic or re-apply it). Then run then re-upload 01.03.01. When you run the installer, elect to first Uninstall the current tables and then you can go back and do a reinstall from scratch.

I am confident that this will fix you up. If it does not, then it is something else within your environment related to mail, because once the newsletter is correctly made (which it is doing), all the send code does is read that newsletter contents and sends it out.
