Hi Montego!

First of all, I do want to thank you for all your support, patient and u always stay professional trying to help others.

Today, I've been trying to use CSS Buttons instead of graphics images like .gif, .jpeg or .png in order to improve performance and making the website more professional.

Here I go with my mod and maybe could be nice for the next release of RavenCMS.

Changing Download button to CSS Button

Open your FTP software(I always use FlashFXP, my favorite)
Open modules/Downloads/public/getit.php

Search for

Code:
echo '<p><input type="submit" name="' . _DL_GOGET . '" value="' . _DL_GOGET . '" /></p></div>';

(OLD) I replaced the regular button with a .png graphic like this

Code:
echo '<p><br /><input type="image" src="modules/Downloads/images/downloadnow.png" style="border:0px" value="'. _DL_GOGET . '" /></p></div>';

(New)This is my new modification to replace with my new CSS code.

Code:
echo '<p><br /><input type="submit" class="styled-button-10" value="' . _DL_GOGET . '" /></p></div>';

Open themes/YOURTHEME/style/style.css file

At the end

Code:
.styled-button-10 {
   background:#5CCD00;
   background:-moz-linear-gradient(top,#5CCD00 0%,#4AA400 100%);
   background:-webkit-gradient(linear,left top,left bottom,color-stop(0%,#5CCD00),color-stop(100%,#4AA400));
   background:-webkit-linear-gradient(top,#5CCD00 0%,#4AA400 100%);
   background:-o-linear-gradient(top,#5CCD00 0%,#4AA400 100%);
   background:-ms-linear-gradient(top,#5CCD00 0%,#4AA400 100%);
   background:linear-gradient(top,#5CCD00 0%,#4AA400 100%);
   filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#5CCD00',endColorstr='#4AA400',GradientType=0);
   padding:10px 15px;
   color:#fff;
   font-family:'Helvetica Neue',sans-serif;
   font-size:16px;
   border-radius:5px;
   -moz-border-radius:5px;
   -webkit-border-radius:5px;
   border:1px solid #459A00
}

This modification will create a beautiful green button. I will post diffirent kind of colors if you have a dark theme.

Question: Montego, Can u please give me a hint to separate CSS code so I can call the style.css in the same place where download folder is?. That will be nice so I don't need to touch the style.css from the themes.

Note: If you guys wants to change the name of the button instead of "Go Get it" to Download or whatever you think. U must do this simple step.

Open modules/Downloads/language/lang-english.php

Search for
Code:
define('_DL_GOGET', 'Go Get it!');

Replace with
Code:
define('_DL_GOGET', 'Download');

Since we're moving to Bootstrap and said themes, I'll probably be modifying to be standard to that platform. However, do appreciate, as always, the good feedback and this can even help folks today with the 2.x branch of RavenNuke(tm). So, Thanks!

Hi Montego,

I found out the cursor hand does not work when I want to press on download so I must add something to be compatible with FF, GChrome and IE,

Tested and Working properly now

Code:
.styled-button-10 {
   background:#5CCD00;
   background:-moz-linear-gradient(top,#5CCD00 0%,#4AA400 100%);
   background:-webkit-gradient(linear,left top,left bottom,color-stop(0%,#5CCD00),color-stop(100%,#4AA400));
   background:-webkit-linear-gradient(top,#5CCD00 0%,#4AA400 100%);
   background:-o-linear-gradient(top,#5CCD00 0%,#4AA400 100%);
   background:-ms-linear-gradient(top,#5CCD00 0%,#4AA400 100%);
   background:linear-gradient(top,#5CCD00 0%,#4AA400 100%);
   filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#5CCD00',endColorstr='#4AA400',GradientType=0);
   padding:10px 15px;
   color:#fff;
   cursor:pointer;
   cursor:hand;
   font-family:'Helvetica Neue',sans-serif;
   font-size:16px;
   border-radius:5px;
   -moz-border-radius:5px;
   -webkit-border-radius:5px;
   border:1px solid #459A00
}

I was thinking of using javascript but then if javascript is disable then animation do not work but it is beautiful.

Code:
/* Modernizr 2.6.2 (Custom Build) | MIT & BSD
 * Build: http://modernizr.com/download/#-csstransforms-svg-mq-cssclasses-addtest-teststyles-testprop-testallprops-domprefixes

I think this one will be really nice to use with the new version of RavenNuke 3.0

hicux,

My goal is to stick as close to core Bootstrap3 as possible. When we start adding a whole bunch of other JS/CSS, this is where conflicts can come in. That will be our starting point at least. Nothing says we won't expound upon that in a measured fashion.

Too early to comment on as the work is still going on with the new approach. SpasticDonkey has the lead on this and has said that he has a tutorial in mind.

Everyone will just have to be patient.

Hi Montego,

I think I went digging a little bit more trying to make the Download module up a little bit more.

open getit.php

Search for

Code:
         echo '<p align="center">[ <a href="modules.php?name=', $module_name, '&amp;op=modifydownloadrequest&amp;lid=', $lid,
            '" >', _DL_MODIFY, '</a> | <a href="modules.php?name=', $module_name, '&amp;op=brokendownload&amp;lid=', $lid,
            '" >', _DL_REPORTBROKEN, '</a>]</p>';

Replace with
Code:

         echo '</form>';
         echo '<p align="center"><a href="modules.php?name=' , $module_name , '&amp;op=modifydownloadrequest&amp;lid=' , $lid,
            '" class="button button-19">' , _DL_MODIFY , '</a>  <a href="modules.php?name=' , $module_name , '&amp;op=brokendownload&amp;lid=' , $lid,
            '" class="button button-18">' , _DL_REPORTBROKEN , '</a></p>';

Open style.css from your theme

At the end paste this one.

Code:
.button-18 {
   padding: 3px 10px;
   cursor: pointer;
   color: #ffffff;
   background-color: #c71c22;
   border: 1px solid #c71c22;
   border-radius: 4px;
   -webkit-border-radius: 4px;
   -moz-border-radius: 4px;
}
.button-18:hover {
   color: #ffffff;
}

.button-19 {
   padding: 3px 10px;
   cursor: pointer;
   color: #333;
   background-color: #f6e312;
   border: 1px solid #e9ac1a;
   border-radius: 4px;
   filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(gradientType=0, startColorstr='#FFF6E312', endColorstr='#FFF9C80D');
   background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, 50% 0%, 50% 100%, color-stop(0%, #f6e312), color-stop(100%, #f9c80d));
   background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, #f6e312 0%,#f9c80d 100%);
   background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #f6e312 0%,#f9c80d 100%);
   background-image: -o-linear-gradient(top, #f6e312 0%,#f9c80d 100%);
   background-image: linear-gradient(top, #f6e312 0%,#f9c80d 100%);
}
.button-19:hover {
   color: #333;
}

Question: I would like to seperate this piece of style css from the theme. Is it possible to call the style.css from download module? Let me know what I must do to achieve that.

Example

There is information in the wiki for this; http://rnwiki.ravennuke.com/wiki/RavenNuke2:Loading_CSS_and_JavaScript

Basically, find the page or function that is rendering the buttons then before the header is included
Code:
include_once 'header.php';
you need to make the stlye sheet available
Code:
addCSSToHead('path/to/mystyle.css');

Hmm, that should be a single quote just before the word path but somehow the forum regex is changing it.

yeah, I know but I guess my question was not with details. Should I call the CSS only in the index.php or I should do it in getit.php? Shocked

Edited: Well, I just made it work. What I did was really simple. I thought to call css file should be from getit.php but NO.

Instructions:

I created a style folder in modules/Download/style/

Inside style folder I created a file named buttons.css with my style code.

I opened index.php

Code:
if (defined('RAVENNUKE_VERSION')) define('IN_RAVENNUKE', true); else define('IN_RAVENNUKE', false);
require_once 'modules/' . $module_name . '/includes/nsngd_func.php';
if (!defined('_DL_LANG_MODULE')) get_lang($module_name);
$pagetitle = _DL_DOWNLOADS;

/*
 * Get the module configuration settings from the database
 */
$dl_config = gdget_configs();
if (empty($dl_config)) {
   include_once 'header.php';

I inserted the code like this.

Code:
if (defined('RAVENNUKE_VERSION')) define('IN_RAVENNUKE', true); else define('IN_RAVENNUKE', false);
require_once 'modules/' . $module_name . '/includes/nsngd_func.php';
if (!defined('_DL_LANG_MODULE')) get_lang($module_name);
$pagetitle = _DL_DOWNLOADS;
$buttons = 'themes/' . $ThemeSel . '/style/buttons.css';
if (file_exists($buttons)) {
   define('RN_MODULE_CSS', 'buttons.css');
} else {
   $buttons = 'modules/' . $module_name . '/style/buttons.css';
   addCSSToHead($buttons, 'file');
}
/*
 * Get the module configuration settings from the database
 */
$dl_config = gdget_configs();
if (empty($dl_config)) {
   include_once 'header.php';

Now it is working properly and I don't need to worry if I change the theme.

That's all folks!

Thanks Guardian for your help. Wink

Hi Montego.

In the next version I would like to implement some better animation download css button. I wonder if it is easy to do. Example:

Let me know

I don't want to put words into Montego's mouth but with the difficulty we all face (lack of time) it is unlikely Downloads would have button animations since any future work (except for maybe bug fixes) will likely be geared toward RavenCMS, which as has been discussed in this thread, will use the Bootstrap GUI framework.
Besides that, I think it is more of a personal preference since image based buttons usually need to be colored to match the theme.

As for the difficulty of you changing the Downloads module in RavenCMS to provide an animated button, it should not be any more difficult than with RavenNuke but please keep in mind that we are aiming for RavenCMS to be mobile friendly so you would need to be familiar with Bootstrap if you wanted to maintain mobile compatibility. It might even be easier since Bootstrap comes with several jQuery plug-ins but until it is released, I cannot give you any code snippets.
