TegoNuke/NSNGD Downloads Coming Along Nicely

I have been communicating development status of the TegoNuke™/NSN Group Downloads module off-and-on via Twitter and other social networks, but figured it was time to communicate something more substantial here as news.  Although the official roadmap does not look like I've made much progress, it could not be farther from the truth.  Massive amounts of code have changed to tighten up security, complete the XHTML work, reduce SQL calls, etc., in fashion as any good RavenNuke™ consumer has come to expect.  Of course, other real bugs too have been squashed with more found, logged and to be fixed.

The final 1.1.0 release, while not cosmetically changed, will have some key changes:

  • Obviously the already mentioned security, XHTML and other corrections
  • Deprecated PHP functions (e.g., the "ereg" class of regular expression checks / replacements) replaced
  • Anti-leaching
  • CSRF protection for RavenNuke™ sites
  • nukeWYSIWYG™ support, which is also already in RavenNuke™
  • Along with nukeWYSIWYG, the fixing of the raw descriptive data to be XHTML compliant
  • UTF-8 compliant

Sound good?  Hope the community will like it and get interested in this project again.  Still a lot of work to do, so no date to be set yet, but keep watch on the road map and/or change log.

Regards,
montego

Yay!
I have been watching the Tweets but it's nice to see this 'official' news post.
It's really pleasing to see that despite the pressure (limited free time to 'get it done') a priority still remains to keep to web standards compliance AND you chucked in utf-8 as well :)
If you need an extra set of eyes for Section508 etc you know where I am.

Hey, Guardian, thanks for the kind words. Regarding Section 508, I may have to push that one out to 1.2.0. I'm just concerned with how difficult it is going to be to validate when/if RavenIce, my primary development system theme, and other parts of RN may throw a bunch of errors. Any thoughts around that?

To be honest, RN isn't too bad for accessibility validation. NukeNav has a small problem (only if you use both the NukeNav header menu and the side block), which I passed back to kguske and pretty much 90%+ of the oher 'failures' are down to form inputs not having proper field text (e.g. 'label' or 'fieldset' attributes) but of course, there is no reason why something like that couldn't wait until 1.2.0
Luckily, accessibility validation doesn't have the same knock-on effect as say, an unclosed TR tag when trying to validate HTML and with tools like Total Validator it is a surprisingly painless process.

Does not sound as bad as I thought it would. I just didn't want to have a bunch of errors to sift through that are not mine to resolve. I'll have to give this a shot. Thanks Guardian.

See latest Twitter posting. Made significant progress today. All known bugs squashed. Now a few significant enhancements left to do. Installer also needs an overhaul plus it will need to perform some complex data conversions...
